Warren got a guitar, when he was seven years old. He knew early on, however, that he wanted to play drums and started playing them when he was 15. He played in several bands until his mid-20s, touring Montana, Iowa, Idaho, South Dakota and Wyoming. He played on the road with Tommy Rogers and the Claim Jumpers until 1979. He then moved to Nashville and played with the Wholly Smoke from 1979-1981. They recorded on the Sound Seventies label. While playing in downtown Nashville, two friends, Billy Crane and Taz DeGregorio, sat in with them. These two friends just happened to be members of the Charlie Daniels Band. Warren plays drums and other percussion, sings lead and background vocals and plays guitar and harp.
